Psychedelic African Highlife from 1970-1976

Before We Forget: Psychedelic African Highlife from 1970-1976

Psychedelic Highlife/Afrobeat from Zambia, Ghana, Nigeria, and other areas in Africa, from 1970-1976.

The cover is an alteration of “Victor Uwaifo At The Crossroads” from 1976. Tracklist (in the comments) includes Marijata, Monomono, Witch, etc. These are some of my favourite discoveries of the last few years and exclude some of the more well known pioneers of Afrobeat, such as Fela Kuti and Tony Allen.

Marijata: I Walk Alone, 1976
Witch: Feeling High, 1973
The Funkees: Acid Rock, 1971
Ofege: It’s Not Easy, 1973
Marijata: Brain Washing, 1976
The Ngozi Family & Chrissy Zebby Tembo: My Ancestors, 1974
The Funkees: Slipping Into Darkness, 1973
Monomono: The World Might Fall Over, 1972
Monomono: Tire Loma Da Nigbehin, 1974
The Ngozi Family & Chrissy Zebby Tembo: Gone Forever, 1974
Sonny Okosuns: Don’t Cry, 1976
Witch: Home Town, 1973
Sir Victor Uwaifo: Happy Day from Me to You, 1970
